HYDERABAD: Two suspects shot injured in a police encounter succumbed to their injuries at the Liaquat University Hospital on Wednesday.
The police spokesman Mazhar Shani claimed that the slain suspects, Abdul Sattar and Zahid alias Gainda, opened fire on police during a raid near Sattar Shah Graveyard in the limits of Sakhi Pir Police Station.
However, both the suspects during the exchange of fire were injured and were shifted to a local hospital for medical aid, he added.
The spokesman claimed that both the suspects were wanted by the police in different cases.
He said that IG Sindh A D Khawaja announced Rs.100,000 and DIG Hyderabad Khadim Hussain Rind announced Rs. 50,000 rewards for the raiding police team, which was led by SHO Sakhi Pir Haq Nawaz. Later, the family members of the suspects killed staged a protest outside the SSP office.
Abdul Shakoor, brother of slain suspect Abdul Sattar, while talking to the media said that the police arrested him a week ago from his residence. “We had even filed a petition in the District and Session Court for recovery of Abdul Sattar, before the police killed him in the encounter,” he said.
The protesters demanded of the police to lodge FIR against the policemen, who were involved in the encounter. SP Headquarters Suhazi Aziz Talpur met the protesters and tried to allay their concerns by assuring that an impartial investigation into the matter would be carried out. However, the protesters refused to end the protest and the sit-in protest continued till the filing of this report.
