Superstores, ration distributors may be marring govt’s efforts against COVID-19

The government of Pakistan, as well as the Sindh government, had taken timely and praiseworthy precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

In this regard, to prevent large-scale outbreak of coronavirus in the country, closure of educational institutions and mosques had eventually become necessary across the country.

The government also used all its resources strictly to ensure the implementation of preventive measures so far.

However, at the same time, it has been observed that city has the freedom to open superstores and ration distributors that violate Section 144, increasing the chances of spreading of the disease.

There is a huge rush of people seen at different stores in the city that have become an effective means of spreading the coronavirus. Neither the administrations of the superstores have taken any measures to stop the rush, nor is there any interference by the city administration or the Sindh government. The people who make this claim that Friday prayers of a few hundred people can spread coronavirus, why are they not aware of the fact that close proximity to each other in superstores not only can cause the spread of coronavirus but can lead towards dangerous the zone.

Shopping carts in superstores to pass goods are usually affected by the virus as people touch each other while carrying the goods in their hands and placing it in the carts. Each person can easily transmit the coronavirus to one another while performing the task.

On the other hand, hundreds of people at one location for taking food ration parcel can also be a big source to outbreak the coronavirus.

A recently procession of thousands of people on Rajab 28, marched by Shia community is also a question mark on government seriousness. According to mostly citizen, the government, apparently, appears to be taking sufficient measures against coronavirus outbreak, However, it seem that the government’s decision on lockdown was taken without prior planning. It has also seen people’s rush towards the food distribution point in different areas of the city that is obvious license to spread coronavirus.

In the view of worsening situation of coronavirus, the state itselfmay need to ensure provision of foodgrain stockpiles to daily wagers during prolonged coronavirus shutdown.
