ISLAMABAD: Two naval officers were killed and at three others were injured when their vehicle was attacked near Jiwani area of Gwadar district on Monday.

The naval officers were transporting food for iftar from Jiwani city when their vehicle was ambushed by four gunmen riding two motorcycles.

“The attackers opened fire on the vehicle, leaving one officer martyred and five wounded,” an official said. The injured were later taken to Karachi. One of the wounded succumbed to his injuries on the way, the official said. A spokesman for the Pakistan Navy, however, said that three naval personnel had been injured. No militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Search operations are being conducted in the areas. Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri has condemned the attack and ordered an investigation.

The attack comes days after the Islamic State claimed responsibility of killing two Chinese nationals. They had been abducted from Quetta last month. The attack was considered a blow to security of Chinese workers. Condemning the incident, China had said it was working to verify the information.

According to details, CTD carried out a search operation in Lahore near Saggian Bridge and intercepted four terrorists riding on motorcycles. “Upon spotting CTD officials, they opened fire. Two terrorists were killed when the security forces returned fire. The other two suspects fled under cover of darkness,” officials said.

Explosives, detonators, Kalashnikovs and pistols were seized from the dead terrorists. CTD then started a search operation in the area.
