Islamabad mayor seeks explanation from latecomers

ISAMABAD: The Mayor of Islamabad has sought explanation from 65 officers of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for reaching the office late.

He has issued directives to all the officers and the subordinate staff to ensure that they are present in the offices at 8.30 a.m. daily.

The Chairman CDA and Mayor Islamabad, Sheikh Ansar Aziz, reached the office at 8.30 a.m on Thursday and he visited the enforcement department immediately and found no officer was present there. Only two or three naib qasids were found seated on the sofas.

Then he visited the one window facility and found a crowd of citizens present there but no officer was present to attend to them. In other departments he faced the same situation.

He directed his staff members that an explanation letter be issued to 65 absent officers and to make it clear to all of them that if any officer or staff members was found absent from duty then stern action would be taken against him.

He is enjoying the full support of Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif for taking steps for the development and uplift of the federal capital. He, along with his political and non political team, is committed to make Islamabad the best city of the world.

He is facing tremendous pressure from political workers and citizens on one side on the implementation of development projects and on the other he is facing the challenge of the deliberate slackness on the part of 9000 employees of the Capital Development Authority.

It is well said about the CDA employees that they get salaries for not performing any duty and take bribery for doing any work.

The growing encroachments in the posh sectors of the federal capital is the by product of the scheming of the enforcement department-encroachers nexus. They allow vendors to place handpushed carts on the occasion of every Eid, alongside the roads and footpaths by taking bribes.

On the other side corruption is eroding every department of the Capital Development Authority and officers and staff members of the CDA only take action against the poor and weak people.

There are officers working in the environment department who allow others to occupy the Capital Development Authority property worth billions of rupees illegally in return of millions of rupees bribe and then they legalise these corrupt practices.

The major issue for the Islamabad mayor is to engage 9000 employees at work. Sources said that a briefing had been given to the mayor about all bad characters and corrupt officers of the Capital Development Authority. If the political chairman Capital Development Authority and his companions work round the clock these even then their efforts will not be enough to improve the plight of the federal capital.

The CDA’s corrupt mafia has evolved plans to force the Capital Development Authority chairman to work in tune with their agenda.

The mayor of Islamabad is facing the vital problem of arranging repair of 37 filtration plants set up in the federal capital to supply clean drinking water to the citizens. 34 out of the 37 plants have gone out of order. The contractors kept on receiving full funds in connivance with officers but no upkeep work was carried out even on a single plant.

Sources said it would become clear within the next three months whether the politically appointed chairman Capital Development Authority, Sheikh Ansar Aziz, ensures transparency and norms of merit or succumbs to the corrupt mafia.

Sheikh Ansar Aziz is determined to make Islamabad a city par-excellence and on the other hand the corrupt mafia is all set to force him to toe their lines.
