Five Arab states register new coronavirus cases

ANKARA: Health authorities in five Arab countries confirmed new cases of the novel coronavirus on Wednesday.

Tunisia’s Health Ministry said a 56-year-old man died from the virus in Sousse, south of capital Tunis, bringing the total deaths to four.
The North African country has reported a total of 114 confirmed cases of the disease so far.

In Lebanon, the Health Ministry reported 29 new infections, taking the total coronavirus cases to 333.

Oman’s Health Ministry also said 15 new cases were reported in the Gulf country, bringing the total infections to 99.

Four new cases were also registered in Kuwait, with the total cases of the diseases reaching to 195.

In a press briefing, a spokesman for the Kuwaiti Health Ministry said four patients have recovered from the virus, bringing the total recoveries to 43.

Palestinian health authorities also reported two new coronavirus cases, raising the total infections to 62.

After emerging in Wuhan, China last December, coronavirus has spread to at least 170 countries and territories. The World Health Organisation has declared the coronavirus outbreak a global pandemic.

The number of confirmed cases worldwide has now surpassed 424,000 while the death toll is nearly 19,000 and over 109,100 have recovered, according to data compiled by the US -based Johns Hopkins University.

Italy, China, Iran, and Spain continue to be the most affected countries.

Despite the rising number of cases, most who contract the virus suffer only mild symptoms before making a recovery.
