Punjab reports first COVID-19 death, nation-wide tally at 908

Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid on Tuesday confirmed the first COVID-19 related death in the province taking the number of fatalities due to the pandemic in the country to seven.

According to provincial Health Minister Yasmin Rashid, the patient was a 57-year-old admitted to Mayo Hospital. She repeated appeals for the public to stay indoors and avoid spreading the virus any further.

The news was confirmed by provincial health department official Qaiser Asif, according to whom, the 57-year-old patient was under treatment at Mayo Hospital and was a resident of Sheikhupura.

The patient also did not have a prior travel history, implying it was a secondary transmission case, he said.

Asif added that the details of all those who interacted with the patient during the past 14 days was being collected so that they could also be tested.

Earlier, Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) governments reported 16 and nine new cases respectively.
