Police cordon off Lahore Railway Station citing security concerns

LAHORE: The city police on Friday beefed up its security arrangements in the provincial capital, as Lahore Railway Station was closed during early morning owing to security concerns, while police arrested at least 12 suspects during a search operation. A flag march was also conducted in different parts of the city.

Police and intelligence officials continued regular checking of rented houses, small shops and suspicious people across the city as per the directions passed on under the National Action Plan (NAP).

According to police officials deployed in different police stations, suspicious people were released upon their identification while others were being kept in jail for further investigations. They added that the department also arrested several criminals involved in heinous crime during the search operations.

Separately, Pakistan Railway sources informed that the railway station was evacuated with all lights being shutdown due to security concerns. Police were deployed at all entry and exit points of the station and no one was allowed to enter the vicinity. Later on, the police also evacuated the station’s parking area.

A flag march was also held under the command of SP Karar Hussain to create a sense of security among the citizens in wake of recent acts of terrorism across the country.

Several police officials participated in the march as it passed through New and Old Campus of Punjab University, Mughalpura, Railway Station and the other important buildings.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ameen Wains and DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf visited different parts of the city in the morning to check upon the security arrangements and other issues.

All divisional SPs, DSPs, and SHOs monitored their respective areas and arrested several persons involved in different heinous crime as per NAP in the provincial metropolis.

Dr Haider Ashraf said as per NAP, no one is allowed to break the law and anyone found involved criminal activities would be dealt with an iron hand. Furthermore, all divisional SPs were directed to continue search operations in their respective areas on daily basis.
