‘Peshawar rapid bus project is passion of PTI’

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit project was a passion of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government and after required allocation of fund the government will meet its completion deadline. However, he expressed anger that some of the tenders have hinted extension of time for the project and issued directive for the correction as soon as possible.

The provincial government will complete the project in arecord time of six months and no compromise would be rendered in the regard he maintained. Pervez Khattak was attending Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority presentation ceremony relating to Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit at chief minister house Peshawar here on Monday, on the occasion senior minister Sherpao, provincial transport minister Malik Shah Muhammad Wazir, district nazim Muhammad Asim and focal person to chief minister for mega projects Shaukat Ali Yousafzai were also present. Representative of the Asia Bank also attended the meeting at the CM house and upon the provincial government request the bid for the two sections of the project including H-one and H-three were delayed from 19 June to 29 June 2017. The completion of the project was the passion of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as it will open new vistas in the field of transport Pervez Khattak stated.

The main corridor of the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit will cover mass area up to 26 kilometers, five kilometer tunnel and six kilometer elevated area would be part of the route, additionally 400 air conditioned buses would be operated on the route to provide modern transport facilities to 0.1 million people on a daily basis. Unlike the metros established by the federal government in Islamabad, Multan and Lahore, the BRT to be completed on minimum allocation of funds which will have long term commercial benefits to government and people of the provincial capital he claimed. On the occasion Pervez Khattak asked the concern authority to complete the tender process for the project before the 30th April 2018 and approved 30 stations under the project. He said that as the government have put all their energies over the completion of the project therefore no compromise would carry out, adding that all required work for the project should be completed according to deadline.
