The Pakistan People’s Party has urged the government to convene a meeting of all the parliamentary leaders over the outbreak of coronavirus that has been declared as pandemic by the World Health Organization.

According to the details, the PPP Central Punjab President and former minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the government should convene a meeting of parliamentary leaders to apprise them the arrangements made so far to control the deadly virus that has jolted the whole world in recent days. “The Prime Minister appreciated the Balochistan government over the arrangements made for the coronavirus but he didn’t say even a single world in appreciation of the Sindh government that is working diligently to curb the outbreak,” said PPP leader, while addressing a press conference in Lahore on Wednesday.

He further added that the response of government came very late in every crisis as evident in this situation of corona outbreak where it responded very late. He was of the view that the federal government failed miserably to control the situation at the borders as screening of people wasn’t carried out in a proper way at the borders. There was a need to craft a comprehensive strategy at the Taftan border for the pilgrims coming from neighboring country of Iran but the government failed to do so, he said.

According to Kaira, the test of leadership comes in the times of crisis but severe mismanagement could be seen on the part of the government at Taftan border.

He further added that the Punjab government also failed to provide facilities to the pilgrims coming from Iran and it couldn’t do anything to curtail the Corona.

“If the Punjab government is unable to control the coronavirus then it should seek the services of CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah as he can chair meetings in Punjab as well,” said Kaira in sarcastic tone. He also urged the Speaker Punjab Assembly to call a meeting of parliamentary leaders to apprise them regarding the situation of deadly virus.

“Yes, PPP will do politics over the coronavirus as doing politics is a positive act and politics is all meant to do public service,” said Kaira. He also demanded immediate release of 100 billion to deal with the corona outbreak and this fund must be distributed among the provinces.

Talking about the upcoming visit of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he said that his visit of Punjab has been postponed for the time being due to the situation of Corona. The PPP has suspended its all activities for next three weeks due to the crisis we are facing and every worker of the party should become part of the awareness campaign of coronavirus, he concluded.
