MOSCOW: Bulgarian playmaker Ivelin Popov scored the only goal as Spartak Moscow beat city rivals Lokomotiv 1-0 on Sunday to go top of the Russian Premier League. Spartak go two points clear of champions CSKA, who thrashed Terek Grozny 3-0 on Saturday, with Zenit St Petersburg third a further two points back after a 5-0 rout at Arsenal Tula. Spartak dominated play on front of a sell out crowd at the 45,000-seater Otkrytie Arena with Popov rising to break the deadlock after 25 minutes with a 15-yard header off a short cross from Dutch midfielder Quincy Promes. “It was a true derby as Spartak and Lokomotiv both battled hard,” Spartak manager Massimo Carrera said.
