KARACHI: The low-grade employees of the Sindh Secretariat, provincial headquarter of all the departments, enjoyed Thursday as unannounced holiday – the third day of Eidul Azha.

The lower staff of almost all the administrative departments of the Sindh Secretariat remained absent from their respective offices on the very first working day after Eid vacations.

It is worth adding that the federal government announced three holidays from 12-14 on the account of Eid. But, the employees stuck to their past practice and went on to extend the holidays for few more days.

On Thursday, the corridors of Tughlaq House, Sindh Secretariat’s New Building, old KDA Building and other adjoining barracks wore a deserted look.

However, a large number of senior officials including secretaries, additional and deputy secretaries, directors, deputy directors, superintendent and section officers attended their offices as usual because they have their own vehicles, a visit by Daily Times revealed.

Also, the offices of a number of provincial ministers and their staff also remained closed and a not a single person was seen visiting the offices of these elected representatives.

Usually, the lower staff does not attend the offices citing the unavailability of public transport but the fact is that the staff uses Secretariat’s Point buses for their transportation.
