LAHORE: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore announced result of the Intermediate Annual Examination 2016 on Saturday with overall pass percentage of 60.85 percent, which was relatively similar to previous year’s percentage.
This year around 90,827 were able to pass the examination in various categories out of the total 14,9276 students.
BISE Lahore also organised a prize distribution ceremony to honour the position holders at Aiwan-e-Iqbal where Punjab School Education Minister Rana Mashood, chief guest of the occasion, distributed awards and medals among students. BISE Lahore Chairman Muhammad Ismail, Secretary Rehana Ilyas, Lahore Board Controller Nasir Jamil, parents of students and teachers also graced the event.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were given to the students getting first, second and third positions respectively, whereas cash prize of Rs 20,000 was given to first position holders, Rs 15,000 to second position holders and Rs 10,000 to third position holders. Students getting overall first positions were also awarded with laptop besides cash and medals.
While addressing the occasion, BISE Lahore Chairman Muhammad Ismail said the Lahore Board was announcing transparent and timely results for last five years as per the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif. The board was also announcing free late results for last five years in a disciplined manner, which was being appreciated in education circles, he added.
In his address, Minister Rana Mashhood said that no nation could achieve progress without education, adding that under the leadership of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab government was providing all out resources to equip talented youth with education. He said that according to the vision of the CM, Punjab government was taking revolutionary measures for the promotion of education.
He said that first time in the history, 400 percent more funds have been allocated in the fiscal year budget 2016, as compared to 2007-08. He said that 70,000 teachers were being recruited to impart education to the youth across the province, whereas 36,000 new classrooms were being constructed for the provision of quality education to the youth, adding that the CM has promoted culture of merit in the province.
Mashhood further observed that Punjab government was promoting education by substantially increasing the volume of Punjab Endowment Fund, distribution of laptops, solar lamps, guard of honour and study tour of foreign universities.
He said that on the instruction of CM, laptops have been distributed among the position holder girl students of class nine. He said that under Chief Minister’s Chinese Language Scholarship Programme, selected students were being sent to Beijing to learn Chinese language. A talented youth, Farhan Javed, son of a junior clerk of DCO Office, Jhelum, was being sent to Cambridge University on scholarship.
