MANSEHRA: District Jail Superintendent suspended a police constable accused of smuggling narcotics and cellular phones inside the prison on Saturday, officials said.

“We have suspended a constable after recovering a huge quantity of narcotics and mobile phones from his possession.” the Superintendent of District Jail Mansehra Abdul Qayyum told reporters. He said that a departmental inquiry against the accused has also been launched. Hassan Dad, who was deployed at a watch tower of the jail was suspended following recovery of Hashish and mobile phones from the tower where he was posted.

He said that after completion of departmental inquiry the accused would be dismissed from service.

The jail authorities had already dismissed two constables smuggling narcotics inside jail previously, he said, adding the departmental inquiry would also unearth those behind him and smuggling narcotics and cellular phones to inmates through him. “We expect a lady smuggler behind him but it would be premature to reveal any further details until inquiry is completed and all behind this crime are unearthed”, he said.
