A number of employees in Lahore Waste Management Company’s (LWMC) had been receiving officiating allowances for many years for the ‘Three Cities Project’ that only exited in papers, Daily Times has learnt.
After having no update or zero progress regarding the said project since it was designed in 2017, the present management of LWMC has announced to abolish this project.
For the execution of project at least five employees of LWMC were given additional charges with extra salaries.
Sources said that during previous government decided to initiate LWMC like project to manage the solid waste system of three cities Sheikhupura, Kasur and Nankana Sahib. This task was given to LWMC to prepare feasibility report after conducting proper survey so that project can be executed in letter and spirit.
However, sources informed that LWMC could not make any progress toward the project while officers designated for the project had been drawing extra salaries in term of additional charges. “The project was basically aimed to oblige a few employees of LWMC by giving them raise in term of rewarding them officiating charges.”
An officer seeking anonymity told this correspondent that the decision to abolish ‘Three Cities’ project was come after the present LWMC Deputy Managing Director (DMD) raised this issue with higher authorities on January 23 this year. Giving the reference of a letter written to General Manager HR, officer said, “DMD stated that since I have joined LWMC, there is not even a single file put or meeting held on Three Cities Project. Drawing of officiating allowance and posting against such project seems not desirable.”
According to the official document available with Daily Times, this has been clearly said that such project such project does not exist anymore while this has been suggested to take further action in this regard.
