Emerging water scarcity

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Karachi city, the city of light is now a megacity bearing more than 20 million people is also called the economic heart of Pakistan and is rightly called mini Pakistan but Karachi is now facing an acute shortage of water.

One of the reasons is; our farmers are wasting huge amount of fresh water by using outdated flood irrigation methods. About 95 percent of freshwater is utilized for irrigation, and yet the country is achieving a lower per acre crop production when compared to India and China in the region. Because the issue of the water crisis is not a new problem, this problem is old for the past several years, Pakistan has been facing a severe water scarcity no proper planning to save the water for Karachi city especially,

I request to government, kindly solve this serious issue immediately because water is a basic need for everyone’s life.
