ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of the Capital Development Authority and Mayor Islamabad, Sheikh Ansar Aziz has said that that new sectors will be developed in the federal capital so that the revenue might be collected to carry out development work.

He was talking to Meet The Press at the National Press Club here on Sunday. He said that when he took over the charge as the Chairman CDA, he was told that only Rs 850 million was the balance in the department’s bank account.

At that time he was also advised to arrange the amount for payment of staff salaries for the next month. “Then I decided to collect the revenue which was not collected by the CDA in the past due to any reason”, he added.

He said that the credit of bringing the local government in Islamabad for the first time went to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Responding to a question he said that accomplishing the development work in the rural and urban areas of the federal government without any discrimination was his top priority.

First of all the provision of drinking water to entire Islamabad would be ensured. The repair of out of order tube wells, defected filtration plants and phase wise replacement of obsolete pipelines would be carried out and for the purpose Rs 10.25 million was issued and the previous payment to the contractor had also been made.

He said that the work on bringing water from Ghazi Barotha Dam to Islamabad and those lands would be cleared from where the pipeline was passing through.

He said that the 60 year-old infrastructure of the federal capital would be rehabilitated.

He said that all the public parks, green belts and those playgrounds that had turned into ruins would be revamped. A citizen’s committee would be formed to monitor the public parks, which would look after their maintenance.

Play grounds would be constructed in the rural areas similar to urban vicinities.

The newly appointed Chairman CDA said that the arrangements of cleanliness would be made, for which the officers of CDA were touring different localities of the capital. The Solid Waste Management department would be responsible for the sanitation cleanliness in the 50 union councils of Islamabad.

Replying to a question Sheikh Ansar said that the carpeting of a section of the IJP Road starting from Pirwadahi to Peshawar Road had been completed. Now the double road at G-10 sector would be done up .

“The neglected sectors including I-8 and I-9 would also be renewed on a priority basis but first the G-Sector of the federal capital would be improved. Under the instructions of the PM, a Building Control Authority would be formed at the federal capital”, he added.

He told the newsmen that the next meeting of the CDA would be held next month in which operations against encroachments with the help of trading organisations would be finalised but before it advertisements would be floated in the media and also be placed at all important points of the city. Ansar said that all the other departments of the CDA would work in coordination and would also recommend lawmaking regarding the civic affairs of Islamabad and all the new projects would be approved by it.
