Powerful backers trying to save real culprits

ISLAMABAD: Powerful backers are trying to save the real culprits who burnt the Nandipur power plant’s record, Daily Times learnt from sources on Sunday.

The Water and Power Ministry sources said that inquiry committee would likely present its report to the federal water and power secretary on Monday (today). The report has held the Nandipur’s security team responsible for the deletion of record. The inquiry team was headed by Water and Power Additional Secretary Umer Rasool.

The team visited the plant site and recorded statements of all the officials concerned and compiled the report, sources said. They also said the inquiry report has absolved the real culprits and it further recommended that the power plant employees are involved in the record burning. The committee did not find any clue about the involvement of an ‘outsider’ in the incident. The alarm system and CCTV cameras of the admin block were out-of-order during the incident.

Also, fake signatures were found on some receipts, but the inquiry committee remains clueless in this regard as well, sources told. Sources said that a powerful mafia is trying to save the skin of Nandipur Security In-charge Rana Mehtab. They added that the inquiry committee was pressed to give him a clean chit in this regard. Sources said after the completion of inquiry report the ball is now in the government’s court. Time will tell whether the government takes action against the real culprits or not, sources concluded.
