PHC reserves verdict in contempt of court plea against SHO

Author: Staff Report

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday reserved judgment on a contempt case of a Station House Officer (SHO) of Shabqadar Police Station who pointed his pistol at Sessions Judge Charsadda in his court room.

The decision is likely to be announced on September 26. When the hearing commenced in a suo-moto notice, a division bench led by Chief Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel was told that the SHO during a proceeding pointed his pistol at the judge.

Additional Advocate General Umer Farooq Adam argued that though he was suspended and demoted but that was not enough and he should have been dismissed and sent jail so that no one could dare to take such step in future.

The bench after hearing the arguments reserved the judgment.

The police officer was summoned by a judge at a District and Sessions Court in Charsadda for failing to implement orders. The SHO was allegedly guilty of not registering an FIR in a robbery case and that was the reason he was told to appear. When the policeman turned up at court, he and the judge exchanged some harsh words. Unable to contain himself, the SHO took out his pistol and pointed it at the judge.
