ISLAMABAD: Serious differences have surfaced in the Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz (PML-N) on the issue of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Raiwind march on September 30 as senior party leaders opposed the formation of any club-wielding force to control the march.
PML N sources told Daily Times that Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and some other ministers are not in favour of any confrontation with the PTI during the march. These ministers contacted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab to convey their reservations on the formation of club-wielding force Jan Nisaraanay Nawaz Sharif. They urged the PM and Shahbaz to take the matter in their hands as any mishap during the march could create problems for the government, sources quoted the ministers as saying.
On the other hand, State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Zaeem Qadri and defence Minister Khawaja Asif are in favour of the ‘hooligan force’ to teach a lesson to the march participants, sources told.
These hawkish leaders have the view that the PTI should not be allowed to march towards the prime minister’s Raiwind palace, but sources said that senior party leaders were of the view that no such decision was made to use force to tackle the march.
“These young leaders are not aware about the implications of such misadventures. We are in the government in Punjab and in centre as well. How can the government allow anyone to form a private force?” a senior PML-N leader told Daily Times on condition of anonymity.
Senior leaders made it clear to the prime minister and the Punjab chief minister that media is criticising the PML-N’s club-wielding force and this is not a good sign. Such things should be discouraged strongly, sources added.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan met
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday and discussed the issue. Nisar showed his reservations on the club-wielding force and demanded that the CM stop such activities.
