A team comprising personnel of intelligence agencies, police and officials of the provincial industries department on Monday raided a sugar mill owned by the Sharif family near Channigoth, “recovering more than 55,000 sugar bags hoarded there”.

According to the sources, the team sealed the godown after seizing the sugar bags worth millions of rupees. None of the government departments officially issued any press release about the recovery of the allegedly hoarded sugar stock.

However, a spokesman for the district police officer, Jam Sajid, confirmed that the mills had been raided. He said that the godown was sealed after the raid. He said local police had not been informed of any action to take against the management of the mills. The district administration was handling the matter.

It should be remembered that on February 21, authorities recovered more than one million bags of sugar during a raid on a factory in the city of Kotri, Sindh.

Under the direction of Prime Minister Imran Khan, sugar and wheat store operations are underway throughout the country and thousands of bags of sugar have been recovered in several cities of Sindh and Punjab.

Previously, an assistant commissioner of the Chowk colony in the city of Melasi, Punjab, took action against the hoarders, during which 1,000 sacks of sugar and 5,000 boxes of ghee were seized.
