ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has issued instructions to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to take stern action against a tax evader company – Sun Diplomatic Bonded Warehouse – for causing a loss of Rs 800 million to the national exchequer by the sale of imported liquor without paying due taxes.

The minister also ordered the FBR to take punitive action against corrupt Customs employees who deliberately delayed the matter of cancellation of the firm’s licence. When the minister was told during a meeting that the company had not paid taxes to the tune of Rs 800 million, he showed annoyance over the negligence shown in the matter and ordered immediate action against all major tax defaulters without any discrimination. Sources said that Islamabad Customs Collector Dr Arslan Subuctageen had decided to suspend the company’s licence, but some black sheep in the lower staff delayed the matter with the connivance of the company’s owner.

The original owner of the company is a notorious bootlegger of the federal capital named Aamir Malik, who got its licence in the name of his two frontmen by showing them as Qadiyani, but both of them are Muslims, sources said.

The Pakistan Customs had registered a case against the company and its accounts and other affairs are being probed.
