Process of induction of nurses into Polyclinic hits controversy

ISLAMABAD: The scam of inducting favourite nurses in the Nursing School of Poly Clinic Islamabad has deepened amid reports that the inquiry committee has been changed for the third time to achieve a result of its choice.

The Acting Joint Executive Director, Dr Shahid Hanif, has constituted a new inquiry committee to save Dr Sartaj and the Assistant Nursing Chief (ANC).

The Nursing School Principal, Shamim Suleman, had levelled allegations through an application with solid evidence, stating that she, along with two other members, was engaged in holding interviews of nurses on September 8 and the case of all the nurses was being looked into on the norms of merit.

In the meantime ANC Sadaqat Zohra and the Chairman of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Dr Sartaj, turned up and said that the interview process should be suspended.

They asked the chairperson to bring and hand them over all the solved papers and then these two persons took away all the solved papers despite the fact that these two had no relevance with the matter. All the members voiced a protest as to why this was being done.

It was informed to the Joint Executive Director (JED), Dr Shahid Hanif, that an illegal practice had been followed therefore, action should be taken against those found responsible.

The solved papers of the nurses are in the possession of those who are not the members of the committee.

Another concern which was also conveyed to the JED was that maximum marks would be given to the favourites in order to declare them successful.

The Administrator Officer (AO), Arshid, obtained all the solved papers and handed them over to Dr Shahid Hanif.

The application filed against this irregularity and high-handedness carries the signatures of Fouzia Bhatti, Nasrin Malik, Robina Naz, Farzana Gulzar, Musarrat Perveen, Miss Sabira, Rani and Miss Yasmin.

Earlier two inquiry committees were constituted to probe into this heinous matter but these committees refused to hold an inquiry being pressurised by Dr Sartaj and his associates.

The Poly Clinic administration wants to obtain a report of its choice in order to hush up the matter. Therefore, a new committee with Dr Shahzad Munir, as the Chairman and Dr Farooq Malik, Dr Shoaib and Dr Shahid, as the members has been set up.

It is pertinent to mention here that several senior officers of the Poly Clinic have already been arrested in the gas cylinder scandal and now a new scandal has surfaced.

It has taken place for the first time in the history of Poly Clinic, that solved papers were snatched from the interview committee by force, to ensure the induction of favourites. No one is ready to hold an impartial inquiry due to the fear of Dr Sartaj.

The Poly clinic administration has also spelt out this mandate for new inquiry committee that the doctors who had snatched the solved papers by force should be acquitted honourably so that the pressure from the YDA could be averted.
