SA adopts resolutions against Altaf; demand initiation of treason case

KARACHI: Senior legislator Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and lawmaker Syed Sardar Ahmed in Sindh Assembly moved a resolution against party founder Altaf Hussain, on Wednesday which was unanimously passed.

The resolution was against MQM Chief for instigation treason, while the House condemned ‘anti-Pakistan’ statements of MQM chief. MPA Syed Sardar Ahmad tabled the resolution in the Assembly, while other members including PTI’s Khurram Sher Zaman, PML-F member Nusrat Sehar Abbasi, PPP’s member Khairunisa Mahgul and PML-N’s Sorath Thebo strongly condemned Altaf Hussain’s anti-Pakistan slogans.

They also condemned the attack on a media channel, and called for action against Altaf. They stated that Sindh Assembly should demand from the federal government to try Altaf Hussain under article 6 of the constitution.

Three similar resolutions were also moved by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League Functional in the SA’s session.

Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly Khwaja Izharul Hasan said he has spent his whole life and childhood in the party and his association with the MQM is of 28 years. “After August 22, the situation has changed, and we had to defect our party leader which we did ultimately.

He added that they would continue supporting their motherland and the operations being conducted in Karachi are in the interest of masses. He also asked for the release of their workers which are being held under wrong charges.

MQM member Faisal Sabzwari said that the party leadership and the activists are under severe stress. PTI leader Khurram Sher Zaman said Altaf Hussain should be executed for his anti-Pakistan speeches.

He added that Altaf’s role is against the country and he is the friend of anti-Pakistan elements. PML-Functional MPA Mehtab Akber Rashdi said that when Solat Mirza was hanged MQM disassociated itself from him and I predicted at that time that they would ultimately announce their disassociation from MQM founder Altaf Hussain.

The session was chaired by Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durani and the new members, Murtaza Baloch and Aurangzeb Panhwer, were welcomed by the house.

Later, Jinnah Sindh Medical Bill 2016 was introduced by parliamentary leader Nisar Khuhro and was handed over to the committee.
