KARACHI: The Muttahida Quami Movement in London said it has dissolved the party’s Rabita Committee and all organisational departments after “a detailed consultation” with ‘loyal’ party members.
“Presenting a resolution and calling for a treason case under Article 6 against the MQM founder (Altaf Hussain) by the party’s members of parliament is shameful,” senior leader Nadeem Nusrat said in a statement from London.
He said the MQM founder had also approved his decision, adding that the MQM’s Coordination Committee, better known as Rabita Committee, and organisation would soon be restructured.
Meanwhile, MQM Pakistan Chairman Farooq Sattar said the party leaders from London were not part of any consultation. “[The] statement from London doesn’t affect MQM Pakistan at all,” he added.
According to the statement, Nadeem Nusrat has been granted powers to appoint the new committee members. He said that some members were taking steps against the interest of the party.
Earlier in the day, a joint resolution against the MQM founder was passed in the Sindh Assembly. MQM Pakistan leader Sardar Ahmed presented the resolution, condemning the party’s founder and calling for action – under Article 6 of the constitution – against those involved in the August 22 violence.
On Tuesday, the MQM Pakistan decided to remove Nadeem Nusrat and Wasay Jalil from the Coordination Committee.
