Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday said that if given chance to govern, his party would protect the country’s economy.

Talking to the media in Lahore on Thursday, he said that his party cannot support any undemocratic government, and urged Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to return to the country and play his role in the prevailing situation.

The PPP chairman said that there was unprecedented inflation in the country due to the policies of the PTI government. It had broken all the previous records, he added

“Had Imran been honest there would have not been such high inflation,” said Bilawal Bhutto.

Bilawal went on to say that they would not close any door; all options including elections or in-house changes would be considered and applied.

“I was supportive of efforts aimed at ousting the incumbent government, but any such undertaking would have to be within the ambit of the constitution for my party to support it.”

“The public and all opposition parties are on one page,” said the PPP chairman.

He also stated that Imran should clarify that how inflation was increasing, adding that the debt was also rising with every passing day.

Bilawal also rejected the government-IMF deals and said that the government never cared about inflation during its meeting with IMF.

Earlier, Bilawal chaired a consultative meeting during which some party leaders expressed displeasure over Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) inactive role in the opposition.

Bilawal Bhutto’s spokesman Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said PML-N leadership is abroad, vice-president is silent and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif is nowhere to be found.

The PPP leaders maintained that only Bilawal Bhutto is playing his role as the opposition member. The silence of PML-N is raising questions, the PPP leaders remarked. Separately, Bilawal said that his party had always stood for the rights of the poor. Addressing a meeting of PPP women wing in Lahore, Bilawal Bhutto said that his party has rendered immense sacrifices for the restoration of democracy and upholding supremacy of the constitution in the country.

Criticizing the incumbent government for rising inflation and unemployment, the PPP chairman urged the people to stand for their rights.

During its tenure, the PPP-led government had initiated a war against the menace of terrorism and faced the challenges, he added.
