LARKANA: Sindh High Court Circuit Court, Larkana, has ordered to clear the occupied land of Mohenjo Daro here on Thursday.
The court directed the Secretary Culture & Tourism to appear before the court on October 6th and further directed him to recover 40 valuables stolen from the museum 14 years ago in 2002 and arrest the culprits.
The court also ordered fresh survey of village Imam Bux Malah, while the sown crops should be confiscated and its value be deposited into the government account.
The court further ordered for a detailed plan to preserve the site. The bench was consisted of Justices Muhammad Zafar Rajpot and Muhammad Humayon Khan, while Commissioner Inamullah Dhareho, AC Yar Ali Shah, DD Culture Shakir Shah and others appeared before the court.
Lawyer Muhammad Afzal Jagirani had filed constitutional petition no: 965 requesting the clearance of the occupied land. The Assistant Commissioner Dokri, Syed Yar Ali Shah, had revealed in his report submitted to the SHC through Commissioner that as many as 76 land grabbers have occupied the precious land of Mohenjo Daro.
He told 62 persons have constructed their houses over the land and 14 influential persons have sown crops there. This report was prepared in the light of the court’s directives issued to the Archaeology & Revenue Department authorities in the same CP.
After the receipt of these court orders, Commissioner Larkana Division Inamullah Dharejo, Deputy Commissioner Javed Jagirani, Mukhtiarkar Dorki, Asghar Lashari, Curator Zaheeruddin Shar, and Sindh Culture Department’s Deputy Director Shakir Shah had also visited the ancient ruins.
On the other hand, Imam Ali, Nawab Malah and other residents of village Imam Bux Malah told media that they are not land grabbers, hence they would not vacate the place.
They said they were given the land under Sindh Goth Abad Scheme by the then district administration of Larkana in 1988 as compensation for the barbaric actions of notorious dacoits in the riverine areas of Indus River.
