Mother and child health is govt’s foremost priority: Yasmin Rashid

Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said here Friday that Mother and Child health is the foremost priority of the government and five new mother and children hospitals are being set up in Punjab to reduce child mortality.

Speaking at the 2nd International Paediatric Urology Conference organized by the Association of Paediatric Surgeons of Pakistan Children Hospital, the Minister said it is very important to provide healthy environment to children for our future generations.

Present at the occasion were Dean Children Hospital, Prof. Dr Masood Sadiq, Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof. Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, MD Children Hospital Dr Mohammad Salim, Prof. Dr Ghulam Mujtaba, Prof. Dr Imran Mushtaq from the UK, Prof. Dr Mumtaz Ahmed, Prof. Dr Mehmud Shaukat, Dr Chao, Dr Peter faculty members, renowned medical professionals and surgeons from across the country participated in the event. Dr Yasmin Rashid said that a lot of mothers lose their lives during birth related complications and the government is making all out efforts to ensure the health and wellbeing of mother and child is well taken care of. The Minister congratulated the organizers for holding such a successful event.

“The Prime Minister Imran Khan wants to provide best possible health facilities to the people of Pakistan. The Prime Minister will himself distribute Sehat Insaf Cards in Lahore tomorrow. One family can get health coverage of Rs. 720,000 annually. We have added 30,000 new human resource in the health department. It is for the first time that male nurses have been hired in the department. We are providing professional training courses for doctors to ensure international standards treatment facilities to the patients, she added. The Health Minister further said, “By setting up a Child Health University, we will save children from diseases. We have selected low performing districts for establishment of five mother and child hospitals. The sitting together of professors of all specialties for planning on child health interventions is a very promising development. Dean Children Hospital Prof. Dr Masood Sadiq addressed the participants and expressed gratitude to the Minister. Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal paid rich tribute to the Health Minister for her immense contribution to mother and child health. Prof. Dr Mohammad Salim said that Children Hospital is the largest hospital of children in the region.
