JUI-F challenges Imran to file treason case

The JUI-F Challenge Prime Minister to file a complaint against Maulana Fazlur Rehman for treason case while the opposition lawmakers denounced the call of Imran Khan to try the JUI-F’s chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman under article 6 of the Constitution for an attempt to “topple” the government.

On Friday, Khan called for treason proceedings against Rehman for remarks regarding the ouster of the incumbent government.

In response, JUI-F lawmaker Maulana Asad Mehmood dared the Prime Minister to initiate a treason case against Rehman, The Express Tribune reported on Saturday.

“I”m challenging Imran Khan to go ahead and try him under Article 6. A treason case should have been filed against the Prime Minister for speaking against the state institutions during his US and Iran tours,” Mehmood said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statements of proceedings under Article 6 of the Constitution against JUI-Fazl Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and clearing Pakistan’s debt through Reko Diq gold reserves came under fire in the Senate on Friday.

Maulana Fazl’s son, Maulana Asad Mehmood declared on the floor of the house that article 6 of the Constitution should not apply to the Maulana, but on what he called the selected Prime Minister. “I challenge you to make charges against us. We will not do what they want, ”he added.
