Sir: I wish to focus on the rampant yet unchecked practice of domestic violence in our society. It speaks about the lows of our literacy and gender equality since most of the victims in these episodes are women.
Females as wives are often seen braving the wrath of benighted husbands and in-laws who feel the need to exercise absolute control over these souls. Although the recently passed Punjab Protection of Women against Violence Act came as glad tidings for those victims, many more steps still need be taken to ensure this vice is eliminated from our society.
The whole societal mindset needs to be revolutionised to get rid off all perceptions that favour men at the expense of women so that they can be protected from abusive relationships.
