The world’s spiciest chip is so hot, it’s sold individually

Author: Daily Times Monitor

This snack is not for the faint of tongue. The Carolina Reaper Madness chip, a deadly invention created by Paqui, is literally the hottest chip in the world, so hot, you can only buy one per package.

The chip is named after its key ingredient, the Carolina Reaper Pepper, which the Guinness Book of World Records has named the world’s spiciest pepper, hitting an average of 1,569,300 heat units on the Scoville Scale. The Scoville Unit is a method of quantifying a substance’s ‘spiciness’, through determining the concentration of the chemical compounds responsible for the sensation, which are named capsaicinoids, it explains. In comparison to Carolina Reaper chilli, jalapeno peppers reach between 2,500 and 5,000 on the scale, while cayenne comes in between 30,000 and 50,000.

Basically, it’s the fire emoji in pepper form. The tortilla chip also contains traces of ghost peppers and chipotle seasoning, Mashable reports. Is your mouth watering yet? The snack even warns of its deadly nature, touting ‘Fear the Reaper’ on its pepper-red individual wrappers, which come in – you guessed it, a coffin-shaped box.

The reason that we’re selling this as one chip is because quite honestly, that’s all that you need. That’s all that anyone needs, Brand Manager for Paqui Chips Jeff Day tells Mashable. After you eat that one chip, trust me, you’re not looking to dig back into the bag and have a second one. So, one chip is what we created to have the experience.

The chip will only be available for a limited time online starting in late September and then at select stores in the US beginning from October 1 for $4.99. Dare devils elsewhere, who wish to try the chip are advised to email the company, as international shipping costs and availability vary.
