Decorating a fireplace mantel can be challenging, but if executed properly, can make for a beautiful focal point in a room.

We love a well-styled and accessorised fireplace mantle. The more layers, the prettier the finished product. One of our favourite mantel decorating ideas is to layer varying sizes of framed or unframed art decoratively on the mantle. You don’t always have to hang. This collection of decorating mantels will keep you warm, cosy, and inspired – even on the chilliest days.

Harvest colours – a garland of colourful leaves and a couple pumpkins add just the right amount of drama.

Metallic pumpkins – if you typically opt for a more minimalist decorating approach, punch up your mantel with some metallic accents. Here, one decorator spray painted pumpkins gold and silver to add drama to a fireplace.

Witchy woman – though not technically a mantel, we had to include this cute DIY fireplace craft, featuring a pair of witch legs out of old boots, a pool noodle, and Halloween tights.

Bringing the outdoors in – an autumn-themed garland of dried leaves and mini pumpkins makes for a subtle but effective decorating idea. Add a few pine cones to your log pile for an extra cosy touch.

Mood lighting – the standout item on this mantel couldn’t be any easier to make: Simply affix backyard leaves to electronic candles by wrapping them with twine.

Bat crazy – rather than confining your Halloween decor to a narrow mantel, take inspiration from this and expand your decorations by adhering bats and cobwebs to the surrounding walls and bookcase.
