Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Sanaullah Abbasi on Saturday visited North Waziristan tribal district and Ghulam Khan border – said to be the first ever formal visit by an IGP to the Waziristan border region.

North Waziristan is one of the tribal districts that were federally administered tribal areas but recently merged into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Speaking to Daily Times, a senior police officer said that Rs450 million had been approved for the infrastructure development in the ex-FATA region, ie for setting up police stations, offices, police lines and checkpoints in the region.

Flanked by DIG Abdul Ghafoor Afridi, Commissioner Bannu Adil Siddiqui, the IG was presented the traditional tribal turban by locals and he later addressed a police Darbar in Miranshah. DPO North Waziristan Shafiullah Gandapur and other officials received the police chief.

The IG also visited Bannu district where he was received by DIG Abdul Ghafoor, DPO Yasir Afridi and other officials. The IG condoled with the sons of the recently martyred SHO City Police Station Abdul Hameed Khan Marwat.

After taking charge recently, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sanaullah Abbasi has embarked on visits to various field formations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

KP Police spokesman and director public relations, Shahzada Kaukab Farooq told Daily Times that the IGP’s visit to the Waziristan region too was aimed to assure the local law-enforcement machinery that the police would be kept on its toes and all other tribal forces merged into the KP Police after the FATA merger with the province, would be brought on a par with regular police force in terms of incentives and salaries.
