KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday directed to call upon the meeting of Task Force and sought reports while expressing extreme displeasure over the government’s measures regarding missing persons’ case. More than 50 cases of the detention of citizens were heard by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto. Additional home secretary, police officials, and counsels of the missing persons were present in the court. The judge expressed his dissatisfaction on the progress of the cases and remarked that the government’s steps are insufficient in this regard. Justice Phulpoto said the public prosecutors are not prepared about the cases and they come to courts without proper understanding. “Home secretary assured the court that meeting of the task force for missing persons would be conveyed soon. Did they follow court orders? Now, hold a meeting of the said force and submit the report before the court otherwise the home secretary would be summoned,” the judge remarked. Meanwhile, the court issued notices to Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh, Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police, and Assistant Advocate General (AAG) for October 19 on a constitutional petition filed by Anees Rehman against the detention of his brother Salim-Ur-Rehman. The court ordered in another case that learned AAG should submit a copy of the order dated 23-09-2016 regarding the constitution of Joint Interrogation Team (JIT). “We directed the concerned SSP to file the JIT well before the next date of hearing. DSP has also submitted progress report which is taken on record. We would appreciate if substantial steps are taken for the recovery of missing persons,” the judge stated. The hearing was put off till October 19.
