KARACHI: The Anti terrorism Courts (ATC) has summoned the witnesses of the murder case of managing director (MD) of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) Shahid Hamid for October 6th and has issued production orders of the prime suspect Minhaj Kazi on Tuesday.
In the hearing conducted in ATC the judge expressed his displeasure over absence of the main accused Minhaj Kazi. The Jail officials informed the court that he was ill and could not peruse the case because of his condition. During the proceeding of the case law officer of rangers Rana Khalid told the court that he has been appointed as special prosecutor in the case.
The court directed him to produce the notification of his appointment on the next date of hearing which was put off the hearing till October 6th.
The then MD of the KESC, now K-Electric, Shahid Hamid, was gunned down near his house in the Defence Housing Authority along with his driver and guard in 1997. Later Saulat Mirza an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was arrested, whom an antiterrorism court awarded death sentence. He was hanged at Machh jail in Balochistan in May last year.
According to reports Mirza had named minhaj Kazi and three others as his accomplices in the murder. Kazi was arrested by Rangers during a targeted operation and was indicted in ATC.
