Pakistan women hockey team leaves for Bangkok

PESHAWAR: Pakistan’s national women team on Wednesday left for Bangkok, Thailand to participate in the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Women Cup.

Hina Kanwal captain and Rizwana Yasmin vice captain of the squad. Saeed Khan, who coached Pakistan’s World Cup winning team of 1994, is the Manager and Chief Coach while the former national captain Usman Sheikh is the Coach.

Team went through a month long training camp at the National Hockey Stadium, Lahore. During last days national women team also played practice matches against the Dar Hockey Academy.

Team Coach Usman is hopeful that Pakistan would put up a good show but he is not very optimistic about the results, “We all know that the national women team has been formed after a gap of more than three years. During this period, there was also very little domestic activity. So it will be difficult to compete with the team active on the international circuit all this time” he remarked.

The two semi-finals will be played on 8 October and the final is scheduled on 9 October. The top two teams of the AHF Cup would qualify for the Women’s Asia Cup, says a PHF media release issued here on Wednesday.

October 1, 2016:  Pakistan vs Thailand

October 3, 2016: Pakistan vs Uzbekistan

October 5, 2016: Pakistan vs Chinese-Taipei
