Court disqualifies PML-N’s MPA Kashif Mehmood for possessing fake degree

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) disqualified Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) member of Punjab Assembly (MPA) Chaudhry Kashif Mehmood for possessing a fake degree on Friday.

Justice Amir Farooq announced the verdict in the disqualification case in an open court against Chaudhry Kashif Mehmood. The IHC also directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to de-seat the lawmaker.

The court had reserved the verdict on November 5 after the completion of arguments from both sides. The petition had been filed by Abdul Ghaffar that sought disqualification of Mehmood as he had allegedly contested the 2018’s general election on basis of a fake educational degree.

It is worth mentioning here that the PML-N lawmaker  had won the election from PP-241 constituency in Bahawalnagar-V during 2018’s general election.

It may be mentioned that in the 2018 general election, Mr Mahmood secured 48,543 votes whereas his opponent from the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) had received 44,184 votes.
