UMERKOT-SINDH: Poor results compelled students to shun education or commit suicide for alleged rampant corruption in Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Mirpurkhas which has reportedly shattered their dreams, where more than 80 percent students of government and private colleges and Higher Secondary Schools of district have been shown failed to extort money,  students, teachers and general public of district has rejected the results of First-Year Pre-engineering and Pre-Medical 2019-20.

According to details more than 3000 students including 800 girls appeared in the annual examinations of Pre-engineering and Pre-Medical for the year 2019-20 from 6 government-run colleges, and 3 higher secondary schools,  9 private higher secondary schools of district,  out of which 80 percent students of public sector and 50 percent students of Private sector have faced unexpected results, their failure has pushed them to dejection.

According to student Kheta Ram of Govt Degree College (GDC) Umerkot that the then education minister Syed Sardar Shah launched anti-copy campaign from his home district, which worked 70 percent,  but on the contrary, BISE Mirpurkhas administration introduced another method of corruption and malpractice to deprive eligible and brilliant students of their right.

A primary school teacher Mohsin Wassan told that when his son came to know about his poor results,  he started shivering and was to commit a suicide to whom they stopped and consoled him. Added that poor like him could afford the expenses of private schools and coaching centers,  but they were unable to spend one lac rupees to buy A1 grade for his son from BISE Mirpurkhas.

Student Naresh Bheel a son of laborer hailing from Khipro town of district Sanghar told that he has been enrolled at Government Degree College Umerkot, which is far from his home,  having coaching classes,  staying in hostel to have bright future for his poor parents, has been disappointed at a level that he is going to shun his education because he was brilliant student but has been awarded 343 marks. He challenged to solve all the papers in presence of a judicial team,  to prove his efficiency against those who have been awarded grade A1 against greasing the palms of BISE administration.

Farooque Memon student of Sindh public college told that he had appeared in a pre-entry test of NUST,  where he secured the top position,  sorrowfully in the current results he has been awarded grade B which is injustice.

An owner of a private college told on the condition of anonymity that 225 students from his college were appeared in exam, for their outshining numbers he would have to pay 20 million rupees, which he hadn’t,  therefore his 50 percent students were shown failed and remaining were awarded the grade bellow A.  He added that in fact, Umerkot has become hub of quality education in Sindh, BISE Mirpurkhas attempted to extort huge money, therefore such poor results are announced to attract them for bribe.  He avoided to name him because this could harm his students in the future in the hands of the board administration.

Professor Muhammad Malook Kunbhar (GDC) Kunri surprised that what a pity,  there is no law to challenge the results in court by candidates. Each year copies of those students who are in touch with corrupt administration of BISE Mirpurkhas have been sent to special checkers to award them high marks they want.  Added that the assessment process is not valid.

According to professor Muhammad Saleem Walhari GDC Dhoronaro, that administration has gone at a level that minus signs have been changed into a plus, supplimentories and MCQs have been intentionally thrown to fail them.  Added that Gazzette was displayed on the website of BISE Mirpurkhas for 12 hours,  soon it was disappeared to tamper with it.  It’s clear from the point that there is a clear difference between Gazetted and final results.

According to professor Ghulam Nabi Shahani,  (GDC) Umerkot that each checker has been given copies more than limit.  Surprisingly hired Checkers don’t qualify the required criteria, therefore such issues occur.

Student Subhash Kumar seat number 19927, told that he was present in all the papers but has been declared absent.  He pointed out that one student Aurangzeb Nohri has been awarded 32 marks in the practical of Chemistry while total marks were 15. The number of students who were absent in paper have been awarded A1 grade.

They all demanded to have tabulation, assessment transparent through a reputable third party. Added that it could be amazing and productive if the Central Percentage condition of the board is given up and student’s eligibility be measured through entry test,  this will decrease the burden on students and copy culture can easily be addressed.

Controller of examinations Anwar Aleem Khanzada told that this time all efforts were taken out to control copy culture,  therefore a huge number of students have been failed. He ruled out any corruption in the board, but there is a lobby working against them in Umerkot.
