SHC rejects former secretary’s bail application

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has rejected the bail application of former secretary Transport Sindh Iqbal Bablani.

Bablani is behind bars on corruption charges and the case is under proceeding in the accountability court while the respondent had approached SHC for bail.

Hearing of bail application was conducted before division bench headed by Justice Naimatuula Phulpoto. The prosecutor of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) argued that ex-secretary is involved in corruption and undeniable evidences are available with us, the case is under trial in the accountability court. The prosecutor argued that Banlani may not be granted bail in this situation. After hearing the arguments of the NAB counsel the court rejected the bail application.

According to NAB reference Bablani was involved in corruption by awarding contracts to incompetent firms and causing loss of billions to the national exchequer.

Following the filing of reference against him, Bablani had attained interim pre-arrest bail that was rejected on May 23 and the official was sent to Prison.
