Civil-military huddle pledges to protect country against internal, external threats

ISLAMABAD: Civil and military leadership on Wednesday reiterated that Pakistan is fully capable of meeting any internal or external security threat with the complete resolve of its people and valiant armed forces.

Addressing a meeting, Nawaz said the world is a witness that Pakistan has given tremendous sacrifices for global peace.

He said that Pakistan would continue to struggle for a peaceful South Asia with a view to enable its people the progress and prosperity of the 21st century.

He said that Pakistan would continue to extend its moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris until the issue of Kashmir is resolved as per aspirations of Kashmiri people.

Nawaz said the Indus Water Treaty was a mutually agreed arrangement between India and Pakistan and one country cannot separate itself from the pact.

The meeting reviewed other matters pertaining to national and regional security. The participants expressed satisfaction over the preparedness of the armed forces to defend the territorial integrity of Pakistan.

Nawaz reiterated that violence on Kashmiris, fighting for their right to self-determination, promised by UNSC resolutions, would never be tolerated and the oppressed Kashmiris deserve not only Pakistan’s support but also the support of the entire world.

The meeting agreed that Pakistan would continue to strive for a peaceful South Asia with a view to enable its people the progress and prosperity of the 21st century.

The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, National Security Advisor Nasser Janjua, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry and Military Operations director general.

In his recent speech at the UN General Assembly session, Nawaz raised the Kashmir issue, highlighting the grave human rights violations in IHK.

His address also drew the world attention towards India’s interference in Pakistan, Islamabad’s position on maintaining the minimum deterrence without involving in arms race in the region, Pakistan’s efforts for reconciliation in Afghanistan, and Pakistan’s eligibility for membership of Nuclear Suppliers Group.

Besides participating in the OIC Contact Group meeting on the sidelines of the UNGA session, Nawaz also held meetings with world leaders to highlight the Kashmir issue. He also shared a dossier on the human rights violations with the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
