LAHORE: Speakers at a peace conference have stressed the need of unity and brotherhood, especially in the holy month of Muharram.

“Law and order is not a regional but a global issue which is most affecting the common man,” the speakers said during the peace conference held under the aegis of World Council of Religions (WCR) Pakistan in Royal Palm on Thursday.

The conference included leaders from all the sects including Brelvi, Deobandi, Ahl-e-Hadith, Shia besides Christians and government officials.

They included WCR Executive Director Hafiz Muhammad Nauman Hamid, Jamia Darul Uloom Naeemiya Principal Dr Raghib Naeemi, Wifaqul Madaris Al-Shia Vice President and Jamaa Muntazir Administrator Allama Syed Qazi Niyaz Hussain Naqvi, Religious Affairs Ministry Secretary Nawazish Ali, Director General Dr Tahir Raza Bukhari, Wifaqul Madaris Salafiya Secretary General Muhammad Yaseen Zafar, Fazil Madina University’s Zia Ullah Shah Bukhari, Mihajul Hussain Chairman and Punjab Quran Board member Dr Muhammad Hussain Akbar and others.

Punjabi Parchar Director Ahmed Raza and Drama writer and Producer Amir Raza also addressed the moot. The participants of the conference urged all to respect the sanctity of Muharramul Haram, saying the month is revered by all the religions and sects equally.

Calling for harmony and cohesion among all the segments of society, the speakers also stressed depreciating anti-peace elements. In a hand-out carrying multiple points, the inter-sect provincial peace conference noted that Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and Hindus have equal human rights. They also called upon the government to enhance the security during the month of Muharram.
