Police plan crackdown on one-wheeling during Eid

LAHORE: The city police have finalised arrangements for a massive crackdown on one-wheeling, aerial firing, aggressive racing and hooliganism on city roads during Eid holidays.

According to the plan, special squads have been constituted for crackdown on one-wheeling on Ring Road while emergency squads would be deployed on The Mall, Jail road, Main Boulevard, Canal Road, Shalimar Link Road, Ferozepur Road and others.

In this connection, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains has urged public to abide by the traffic rules and regulations for their own and others safety. He also urged parents to keep check on their children and restrain them from performing deadly antics.

The CCPO also met a number of parents at his office along with other police officers to brief them about the hazards of one-wheeling. He said that the city police, traffic officers and circle heads would take stern action against such motorcyclists. He added no one would be spared if found involved in perfuming wheelies.

Separately, DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf has said that strict action will be taken against those transgressing the limits of law and ethics, indulging in drinking, aerial firing, one-wheeling, aggressive racing and hooliganism during Eid holidays.

He added that police had finalised a plan to crackdown on one-wheeling, aerial firing and other criminal activities. He directed all divisional superintendents of police (SPs) and circle heads to supervise the campaign in their respective areas and take measures to eradicate the trend of doing wheelies on city roads.

He directed wardens to continue the crackdown on one-wheeling and educate citizens about risks of dangerous antics. He appealed to the public to cooperate with police and the City Traffic Police to eliminate the trend of one-wheeling and ensure safe journey on roads.

He said that traffic police wardens were also distributing pamphlets among motorcyclists on various roads and traffic signals to educate the citizens about the traffic rules.

Separately, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rai Ijaz has said that the City Traffic Police (CTP) will continue its crackdown on illegal parking, encroachments and professional beggars until Eid holidays across the city.

He said that the City Traffic Police had issued warnings to shopkeepers against encroachments and illegal parking lots that interrupt flow of traffic around markets, shopping malls on all busy roads, markets, shopping malls and bazaars around the city.

He directed the SPs to keep vigilant eyes on illegal parking lots and encroachments to maintain smooth flow of traffic. He said that he had passed on instructions to all traffic police officers to ensure better flow of traffic.

He said no hurdles would be tolerated on the roads otherwise strict action would be taken against responsible officials.
