Turkish tennis officials handed life bans for corruption

PARIS: Two Turkish tennis officials have been banned for life after being found guilty of betting-related offences by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The ITF said Friday that Serkan Aslan and Mehmet Ulker had their ITF officiating certificates permanently revoked after being found guilty of the offences under the Code of Conduct for officials. Ulker was accused of using his mobile phone to communicate the scores of matches over which he was officiating to a third party at the ITF Futures event in Belek, Turkey in October 2015. He also delayed the inputting of scores “to allow one or more third parties to benefit by placing bets on matches in which he was officiating”, said the ITF. Aslan and Ulker also delayed the inputting of scores “and/or fraudulently manipulated scores by inputting fictitious deuce games into their PDA devices” while officiating at other third-tier Futures events between January and September 2015. The pair were also accused of failing to report the fraudulent manipulation of the live scoring system.
