ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Friday exhorted all commanders to lay more emphasis on combat readiness, adding that training in peacetime is the only guarantor of averting and winning the war, if imposed.

Talking to troops during his visit to a newly developed Combat Reaction Training facility in the close vicinity of Lahore Garrison, the top commander said that Pakistan could not be “coerced through any amount of malicious propaganda” by India.

According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief expressed his complete satisfaction over the operational preparedness of the army and said that the highest state of vigil was being maintained along the Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the Working Boundary (WB) as well as all along the international border. “Any misadventure by our adversary will meet the most befitting response from Pakistan,” he said. He was also given a detailed briefing on the purpose-built environment/obstacles meant to impart module-based “all arms” training to mechanised the troops.

Earlier, the COAS inaugurated the newly established Junior Campus of Garrison Academy, Lahore and attended their first school assembly. It was a special moment as the COAS visited the premises of the school where he was a student 44 years ago (March 1967-1972). A large number of students, faculty members and Lahore Garrison Education System Staff were present on the occasion. He was accompanied by Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Sadiq Ali.
