Thief shoots, injures ASI with official pistol

ISLAMABAD: A thief who was caught red handed from Melody Chowk in the jurisdiction of Abpara Police is said to have injured Tanvir, ASI of federal police by firing with the official pistol he snatched from the police officer and succeeded to manage escape.

According to information available with Daily Times a telephone call was received in the police station from Khadda Market G-7 that certain citizens have kept an unknown thief in their custody they have caught while he was stealing goods from New Paracha traders.

ASI Tanvir of concerned police station reached on the spot and after taking the thief into custody he was on way to police station on back seat of his bike when the latter snatched the pistol from the ASI and fired at the shoulder of ASI. The police officer was injured. The thief Imran intercepted a bike rider and fled to Abpara Market on the bike at gun point.

Meanwhile, the incident took place at 11 am and another police officer ASI Zahoor took injured ASI in Polyclinic where his condition is stated stable.

The crimes of theft, burglaries and dacoity are common in the areas Ghouri Town, Khanna Dak, Sanam Chowk falling under police station Koral. A motor cycle thief was caught red handed by Koral Police before Eid ul Fitr and 6 motor cycles were recovered from his possession. The ring leader of this gang was also caught but police released them by grabbing over Rs 100,000 from them as Eidi. A gang involved in slaughtering dead calves and selling them in Kahkshan restaurant at Khanna pull and other areas was caught a few months back but they were set free through muk muka.

According to information, SSP Operation Sajid Kayani has set up team to arrest the accused Imran who had shot the ASI Tanvir. Police hope that the accused would be arrested within 24 hours. IG Islamabad Tariq Masood Yasin told Daily Times orders have been issued for nabbing the accused. The criminals would not be spared, he assured. The police officers who are backing the criminals would also be awarded severe punishment, he added.
