Ashura: 161 points declared sensitive

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Police have declared 161 spots as sensitive points in connection with Ashura Muharram and decided to deploy 10 companies each of army and Rangers on 9th and 10th Muharram in Rawalpindi besides suspending mobile phone service.

CPO Rawalpindi Israr Ahmad Abbasi while addressing a press conference here said fool proof security plan was evolved from Muharram 1st to 10 in Rawalpindi. 316 processions and 1766 majalis have been divided into 3 different categories. 46 are licensed and 270 are traditional processions. As many as 477 processions and 1916 majalis will be held during Muharram in district Rawalpindi. 6100 police officers and jawans will be deployed in district Rawalpindi on the eve of Youme Ashura. Shaheen force and National volunteers force will deployed in addition to police force.

To a question he said that miscreants will try to foment unrest through social media, therefore, regular media should make confirmation about any report from us before these are published. Pickets will be set up on entry and exit points of city and additional force will be deployed therein.
