On this day, ‘A little with head Maradona and a little with hand’

Maradona has had an amazing career both on the field and off the field. Throughout his illustrious career as a soccer star he has been regarded as one of the greatest players after Pele.

Although Maradona has scored one of the best goals in soccer history but the most controversial goal was the one he scored in the FIFA 1986 world cup quarter-finals against England. Each time the ball was passed to him, he produced something incredible out of it. His famous goal against England came in the second half when he played a low ball to edge of the 30 yard circle to his team mate Jorge Valdano and continued his run with a hope of getting a low ball which he will eventually kick in the net. As Valando played a lofted ball, Diego Maradona had no choice but to use his head to score the goal, since he was short heighted, so he couldn’t use his feet. It was by that time that Diego Maradona used the outer side of his left hand to place the ball in the back of the net, while pretending he used his head. The goal was accepted by the match referees because he didn’t see any infringements. The goal soon sparked a controversy when English players started protesting against the goal but all their efforts went in vain. Since then the goal has been named as ‘hand of god’.

Argentina went on to clinch the FIFA World Cup 1986 title, defeating West Germany with a difference of one goal (3-2), Diego Maradona did not score in the final. However he received the FIFA Golden Ball for his performance throughout the tournament.

-Maradona’s sparkling revelations

In 2005, Maradona in his own television show revealed that he had used his hand to score the goal and immediately after scoring the goal, he knew it was illegitimate but he started celebrating the goal on which the referee had no objections at all.
