A SHC bench, headed by Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh, heard the petition filed by Zain Malik through his counsel. At the outset of the hearing, Malik’s counsel submitted to the bench that arrest warrants issued by the accountability court were wrong. He said name might be great, but justice is the right of every citizen.
At which, chief justice remarked: “We do not conduct judicial proceedings by considering names but we have to make judgments depend on justice.”
By the way, who is Zain Malik, we want to know after your stance, the court remarked. The counsel informed that Zain Malik is son-in-law of Bahria Foundation’s head Malik Riaz. “Malik Riaz is definitely a big man,” the bench replied.
However, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) sought more time for submitting arguments on the petition. Later, the court adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
It must be noted here that accountability court had issued arrest warrants for Zain Malik over his nonappearance before court. Malik is alleged to have constructed multi-storey building on 198 plots allocated for newspaper hawkers.
