NAB arrests ex-Local Govt sectretary

KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Sindh, has finally arrested former secretary Local Government department Ali Ahmed Lund.

Ali, who is known as blue-eyed boy of PPP leaders Agha Siraj Durrani and Owais Muzaffar Tapi, was already an absconder in two cases facing charges of making illegal assets worth of Rs 330 million.

Deputy Director NAB Sindh Dr Zamir Abbasi confirmed to Daily Times that ex-secretary Local Government Ali Ahmed Lund has been arrested.

“The former secretary was also wanted in another case of 12,800 illegal appointments in LG department. The NAB intelligence conducted raid at his residence on Monday in DHA and arrested him,” said Dr Zamir.

According to sources, former secretary Ali Ahmed Lund and Agha Siraj Durrani during their tenure accommodated more than 12,800 illegal appointments.

Recently, NAB had summoned some 28 officers of the Local Government Department to record their statements in this regard. However, only 23 officials had appeared before the NAB investigation officer.

“The LG officials have clearly stated that they were pressurized by the then minister Agha Siraj Durrani and former secretary Ali Ahmed Lund to appoint people,” said the source.

Meanwhile, those who had recorded their statements in the case were: former secretary Javed Hanif Khan; Aftab Ahmed Mughal; ADLG Badin Azad Nidwani; ADLG Mithi Shoukat Memon; ADLG Mithi Azhar Memon.
