KHYBER AGENCY: Restrictions imposed on the transportation of different kinds of goods from Afghanistan to Pakistan via Torkham Border has hiked the prices of vegetables, fresh and dry fruits and other daily commodities in the local markets. Market dealers and venders in Torkham Border Town and Landikotal Bazaar now sold daily commodities with the profit margin between Rs 300 to Rs 500. Commission agents including Rohul Amin, Yaqub, Lal Muhmmad and Said Karim told media that they were transporting daily commodities including fresh and dry fruits, vegetables, detergents and cooking oil and Ghee from Afghanistan. They said that around seven thousand daily wagers and other laborers were involved in the jobs to earn for their families. “Frontier Corps (FC) officials banned transporting such commodities from Afghanistan last week which severely suffered our business at the Pakistani side of the Torkham. We inherited these businesses from our forefathers. Torkham and Landikotal have no other job opportunities to adjust those whose jobs were suffered due to the ban over transportation of goods from Afghanistan,” said Rohul Amin. Another shop owner Lal Muhammad said that more than two thousand shopkeepers who deal in goods coming from Afghanistan were going in losses.
