KARACHI: The overall functioning of the Sindh government has been declining as there are more than 90,591 posts in various departments lying vacant since long, resulting in large-scale unemployment, Daily Times has learnt.
The former chief minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, had imposed a complete ban on fresh recruitments in 2014 and all the provincial departments were directed to strictly follow the orders. However, the chief minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has recently lifted the ban on all kinds of recruitments, paving way for jobless youths to serve the province, sources said.
The chief minister directed the Chief Secretary to look through the vacant positions in the different departments of Sindh government and furnish the report to the CM.
According to official documents, there are around 1,273 posts which are lying vacant in agriculture department, Auqaf, Zakat and Ushr (249 posts), Board of Revenue (1016 posts), Cooperation (89 posts), Culture, Tourism and Antiquities (244 posts), Education and Literacy (26,789 posts), Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development (100 posts), Excise, Taxation and Narcotics (341 posts), Enquiries & Anti Corruption Establishment, SGA&CD (341 posts), Energy (415 posts), Food (448 posts), Finance (85 posts), Forests & Wildlife (213 posts), General Administration Wing, SGA&CD (177 posts), Home (42,816 posts), Health (6337 posts), Information Science & Technology (99 posts), Inter Provincial Coordination, SGA&CD (29 posts), Information & Archives (16 posts), Inspection, Enquiries & Implementation Team (34 posts), Irrigation (1656 posts), Industries and Commerce (25 posts), Katchi Abadis (43 posts), Local Government (15 posts), Land Utilization (only 3 posts), Livestock & Fisheries (869 posts), Labour & Human Resources (1975 posts), Law (273 posts), Minorities Affairs (33 posts), Mines and Minerals Development (91 posts), Public Health Engineering & Rural Development (826 posts), Population Welfare (1163 posts), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (Sindh) Rehabilitation (11 posts), Planning and Development (169 posts), Rehabilitation (23 posts), Sports & Youth Affairs (188 posts), Special Initiatives (22 posts), Special Education (347 posts), Services Wing, SGA&CD (831 posts), Sindh Revenue Board (10 posts), Social Welfare (114 posts), Social Welfare (114 posts), Transport & Mass Transit (30 posts), University & Board (237 posts), Women Development (29 posts), Works and Services (529 posts), Secretariat of Governor Sindh (54 posts) and Chief Minister’s Secretariat Sindh having 40 vacant posts.
